Human Resources Indicators

Indicators are tools devised to measure specific dimensions of a variable. An indicator is not basic information; it is a set of information that has been elaborated so that a phenomenon can be studied.  To build a good indicator, we need to identify the most important aspects of the phenomena to be measured.  The indicators need to be valid and yield consistent and reliable results that genuinely reflect initial concept.  Usually, researchers require multiple indicators in order to fully describe all of the aspects of a phenomenon; the context and way in which a concept is defined will significantly affect the types of indicators used.

The interpretations by which we infer about the particular phenomena under examination can significantly affect the ways in which we construct and use indicators.  In order to maintain scientific virtue, indicators must be absolutely specific and unambiguous.   Indicators are synthetic, and should consist of pertinent information reflecting the objective that it is supposed to measure.
